One Eye Blurry after Zyoptix Surgery

Ξ November 12th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | by Cathy | Stories |

I am so happy to have found your website! I have been checking through websites since I had this surgery, as I wanted to know if what I am experiencing is normal. Everyone I talked to prior to my surgery had great vision the very next day. Not me.

I had the Zyoptix Lasik eye surgery just about 4 weeks ago. The very next day after surgery I noticed the right eye starting to get blurry. It progressively got worse, and I got very scared. My vision was very distorted. I called the office as I was very upset and was afraid it would get so bad I would go blind in that eye. They told me it is normal and it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months to heal. I called them again the next day as it got even worse. I was extremely worried. They again told me I have to give it time and not to worry, its normal. During the next 2 weeks I found it very upsetting and wished I had left well enough alone.

Then one morning about 2 weeks after the surgery, I woke up and was so excited that my right eye was clearer than it had been, still not perfect, but way better. However, it didn’t last, four days later it went blurry again. It gets worse in the evening. When I first wake up in the mornings, it’s not bad, but within an hour, it gets blurry again. I went for my one month checkup today, and was told that everyone heals differently and to give it time, it is still healing and changing. Once it heals and appears to have stopped changing, if its still blurry then they can do the surgery again.

At first the halos and starbursts were scary, but that has settled down quite a bit. The first week, at night, it seemed darker than usual, I was in an underground parkade and it was really really hard to see.

Sometimes late at night it almost feels like you have contacts on and want to take them out. I put drops in right away and it makes it feel a lot better. I still wake up during the night and they feel sticky, so I put drops in, which really helps.

I am holding out hope that my right eye comes along, but I really doubt it. Has anyone else had this same scenario? I would love to hear from anyone for support!

Thanks for listening, Cathy

Step by Step Lasik Experience

My Laser Eye Treatment Experience

Step by Step by Mohammad Faisal

I had laser eye treatment week ago and now my vision is better than before and now I got rid of wearing glasses. I am going to share my experience of having laser eye surgery. I have tried to put maximum information so you will find what will be happening, I have written my entire journey of Laser Eye in steps. So let’s start;

Introduction
I am male 26 living in Manchester, England. I was short sighted means had problems seeing things from Distance. My sight was around -2.00 for both eyes.

I have been wearing glasses since January 2000. I have to wear glasses all the times. It was not a problem for me to wear glasses until one day my son broke my glasses and I have to wait few days before I can receive the new one. I had all sorts of problems and I felt very handicap. I thought, why I don’t go for Laser Eye treatment and get rid of glasses, I googled and try finding the good laser eye treatment people, I seen advert of O*** E****. I went to their website and read about the different treatments.

Booking consultation
After reading online, I gave them ring to book an appointment and they told me its going to be next day but I refused as I was busy with my work. There was some space available after 4 days which suits me and I confirmed and booked it. They told me to bring my latest prescription.

Consultation day
I went on consultation, staff was very kind and helpful, they welcomed me very well.
First they test my eyes, checked my latest eye prescription (I had the test 6 months ago) it was pretty much the same, they checked for any eye infection, and told me about how they are going to test for am I suitable or not? they will be doing several tests before they can make final decision on me having surgery. The need to check thickness of pupil if its going to be less than 7mm or not, if its less than 7mm, than its okay and I can have surgery.

First I was measured and it was around 5.5mm but doctor told me they need to put drop to check further and after drop it stretched but it was pretty much the same. I am suitable and he told because of my eye sight I will have good results and they will last for long time I was very happy and excited and now there were many different procedures he told me he would prefer if I choose Lasik with ultra lase in this type of surgery flap of eye will be created by machine and no pain no cuts or needles involve all done by machine, whole procedure will take around 20 mins but now the question was how much it will cost??? I was told £395 for Lasik + £300 for ultra lase so for 1 eye it will cost me £695

Finance
I made £200 deposit and I have to make the rest payment once they will find when I can have the surgery, the found next day laser eye appointment available after 3 days of the consultation, I made the payment was ready for the surgery.

Treatment day
I woke up early that day and was thinking about today what’s going to happen? I went with my brother to the place where I will be having my treatment. It took us around 20 minutes to reach there. There were 10 people already waiting to have surgery, I seen couple of people whom just came out of surgery room wearing dark glasses some had water coming out of their eyes and the eyes were also red but they could see. I was nervous at start but after sitting there for few minutes I was feeling relax and comfortable. I was seen by nurse for eye sight test and after 15mins surgeon came and explain me how the procedure will be happening and he made final checks on my eyes and told me he will call in few minutes

Operation theatre
After 20 minutes they call me inside, they ask me to lay down and straightaway nurse put some drops to delouse my eyes. It took 4 minutes to take effect and I can see kind of blurred and than doctor came, he moved me to the machine. Machine had white lights on, he told me to look up for few seconds, later I found it was the machine to create flap on my eye. In 7minutes they created the flaps for my both eyes. After that I was move to another machine for laser treatment and doctor told me to hold 20sec that’s what he requires from me, and it its very important not to move on that time. I was bit sacred but that red dot I have to see didn’t harm me in anyway, like I didn’t feel warm or itchy while I was looking at that dot, I try not to move myself and look on that dot without even breathing. Doctor was counting number and tell me we are their and very good very good, excellent. It took us only 5/6 minutes for both eyes. And basically that was the laser treatment, as soon as they finish they told me to get up and tell me to outside and wait for nurse.

After 10mins of Laser Treatment
I was trying to open my eyes and see things, but because of drops I could see the things in blurred vision. For few seconds I was not able to open my eyes, and was feeling my eye lids little heavy than normal. After some time nurse came with the small bag and told me their some drops which I need to put into my eyes after every 2/3hours and come back tomorrow for check up. I asked about can I use water, she told me No, for 1 week try not to use water around eyes because water can have Bactria on them which can create infection. And she told me go home and have some rest and once your eyes settle down your vision will be better. I asked is there any chance that it didn’t work she told me with kind of guarantee No Way!

Home
I went my brother to the car and that time eyes were feeling heavy and itchy like they have some thing on them, but I couldn’t scratch as doctor told me not to so. They also give me this wired looking glasses to wear while I sleep, so I couldn’t scratch while I am sleeping. When I reached my room, I was really feeling itchy and uncomfortable, it was bit of annoying time, when I couldn’t do anything, then I remember why not get some sleep with the help of Parcetamol, so, I took the tablet and within few mins I went to sleep for almost 4hours, when I woke up all change my vision was normal and I could see things from distance but the problem was still the eyelids I couldn’t open my eyes for long time and I tried not to open as well. I tried resting for a bit and than it was around 11pm I went to my bed and straightaway I went to sleep.

After 24hours
I woke next day this time my eye lids were normal. I could see things in bright colours. I was very happy, I went on next day appointment, doctor checked and told me every thing is okay but I had some redness around my eyeballs, I asked why is that and how long will it take to go. Doctor told me it will go after some time while they performing surgery it happens but it won’t be painful or itchy but looks really weird.

After 7 Days
I can see better now and my eyes are pretty normal I don’t have any problems with reading or night vision. Also the redness around eyeball is nearly finish.

I am very pleased with my surgery, and have some thoughts why I didn’t choose before but they say “There’s set time for a thing to happen”.

hank you for your blog. I was getting a little worried. I had my “no touch” laser surgery 6 days ago and was feeling a little anxious as Some people seem shocked that my vision isn’t great yet. My eyes are scratchy and I actually see worse now than I did before with my astigmatism. I’m really hopeful that my outcome is as good as yours is now.

Enhancement Frustration

Ξ October 24th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | by mdt917 | Stories |

I had my iLasik done just over 3 months ago. I can say that I have experienced nothing but heartache, sadness, and frustration. For the first week after my surgery I cried all the time, I could not see anything further than five feet away from me. This was supposed to be a present for my 30th birthday, what a present.

Before the surgery I was told that 8% of patients need an enhancement, and until they can have that they might need a very weak pair of driving glasses. Unfortunately I guess that I am one of the lucky 8%,;I never thought I would be, but here I am with glasses that I need to function on a daily basis, not just ones to drive with. I cannot even see the faces of my three boys without them on.

On top of the large surgery fee I have been hit with the cost of the enhancement at $175 per eye and $150 for glasses. We are a single income family, and I stay at home with the two younger boys. I am the President and Treasurer of my son’s PTO, and volunteer any free time to them. Like most people money is tight, but we got a loan for the surgery, and have had to come up with the additional money required for the extra expenses. I recently received a flyer in the mail from the same place I had my surgery, with an ad offering the procedure at $2000 less then I had to pay. Conveniently, with my prescription, I was told that it would have cost me more then the ad quoted.

Lasik what a feeling!

Ξ October 21st, 2008 | → 1 Comments | by nikki1008 | Stories |

I just had Lasik surgery on my eyes and I feel like a new woman. I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. I must admit I was petrified about someone putting a laser to my eye but my doctor was wonderful. Before I went in he told me what to expect. He numbed my eyes with drops and he checked me thru the microscope. Then he put more numb drops and told me to lie down on the bed. He them put in a ring to my eyes so he can cut and put more drops and he then pulled my eyelids with a spring and did the laser thing. He said a smell of burnt hair may vapor but not to worry and I didn’t. He counted to 30 seconds and it was done. He put more drops and it look like he painted my eyes with a brush and I was done. I got up and could see a clock perfectly without glasses what a feeling. I wish this were more established about 10 years ago as I am now 49 but I figured with all the costs of eye exams and new glasses and prescription sun glasses I would be saving a bundle. The cost is really reasonable since you can pay it off in 2 years without interest or put it on your flex pay account. I urge anyone who is tired of glasses & contacts to look into this procedure you will have a great experience. I am able to drive, go to the movies and watch TV without the glasses. I can also do my hair and makeup without the use of glasses just that alone is great.

The only bad thing about having 20/20 vision now is I am able to see people really up close that I never notice before, whether it’s my daughter who has a zit or the wrinkles on myself as well as friends which I wish I didn’t. I guess it’s time to get some potent wrinkle creams for myself or look into plastic surgery. That’s the thing once you start correcting one part of your body you want to start correcting other parts. I am going to try alternative methods because I still need to pay off the Lasik surgery first.

Regardless of all this, having your eyes corrected is still the best thing I have done and I hope those of you who are considering it will now go for it because it’s really worth it.

Driving problems after Intralase Wavefront

Ξ October 18th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | by Carol | Stories |

Hi Carol, I had intralase wavefront on 1st oct 08 having -6 in both eyes. On my 1st day check they said I was driving standard but my vision didn’t feel strong enough (only seem to have clear sight up to 4ft or so depending on light) I had my first week check today; they now agree and say I may need glasses for driving until it either sorts itself out in a month or I have the procedure done again….is this normal and is there anything I need to ask them? Thanks

Dry Eyes after Lasik

Ξ October 18th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | by tseekid | Stories |

Priscille writes…

I had monovision lasik April 2007 and it was just wonderful. My eyes felt great but I could not adjust to the monovision so in October 2007, six months later, I had my left eye enhanced. It’s been hell, and downhill since. I’ve had to deal with severe dry eyes. When they are dry I have a smudge that bothers my sight because it moves whenever I move my eye. It’s bad with I look out the window in the bright daylight. I’m on Restasis and have been for almost 4 months now. I find that this is not helping that much but it says it may take up to 4 months. I’ve tried punctal plugs. I’m using Omega 3. I’m trying everything I can. My eyes look bad as far as very dark circles and they feel heavy. This has at times disabled me and cannot do what I want to do because of having so much discomfort. I read the book, “The Dry Eye Remedy” and it says that it can take up to a couple of years before it would go away. I’m so afraid that it is permanent and I’ll have to deal with it for the rest of my life. So, overall, I do not have a successful story about my lasik. I was just wondering if there is any hope for relief with dry eye and how long it took for you not to be bothered by it any more. You had your surgery a few years before I did. I’m hoping I hear from you through my e-mail.

Standard Lasik Monovision Outcome

I had standard lasik monovision performed 3 days ago. Too early too tell but have 20/20 in one eye and can read with the other. I wish I would have pre-tried with the contacts/monovision. Common headache on the undercorrected side. Lasik is big business. They are experts at winning your trust but remember, you don’t know them. Every person in the office is trained with every answer they give etc. Be wary, don’t disregard your gut feelings and don’t rush the decision because they have an opening “next week”. I was -2.75 and -2.5. Right now I think I should have left well enough alone but it is early!

Lasik flap creation very uncomfortable

Ξ October 3rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | by Carol | Stories |

TJ writes…

hi carol…

thank you for this website. it has made me feel so much better. i had lasik on both eyes on 9/27. i was a -8.50 and -8.75, and have been wearing glasses since age 5 and contacts for 20 years…i’m now 34.

like another poster, i was very uncomfortable during the flap creation due to the pressure caused by the sucking. i absolutely hated that part of the procedure. i also had a bit of trouble focusing on the light during the treatment as it kept disappearing (other lights were dominating my field of vision). my eyes burned for about 24 hours post-op. i could not even keep them opened for the whole first day, they were very sensitive to light. by day 2 that had all but passed.

i went for my next-day follow-up and had the bandage contacts removed, and was told things look good. i was not told what my sight was, but it was still quite blurry at the time of the visit. but about 30 min. later it was much improved. my eyes are dry right now, but i don’t believe they’re much worse than when i wore contacts. i have halos and starbursts at night, and have been very anxious about this, but your site has put me at ease. i really hope they go away, and now realize i need to give it much more time than 6 days!

thanks so much for this site!

Over Corrected After Lasik - should I have enhancement?

Ξ September 18th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | by Carol | Stories |

Tammy writes….I had lasik 7 weeks ago and am over-corrected 3 clicks. The first 3-4 weeks everything 3-4 feet to my face was very blurry, now it has improved a little. I wear reading glasses only to read or use the computer, otherwise my vision is pretty good though the food on my plate is blurry. I got a 2nd opinion this week as since my initial surgery I have heard of several people who are very unhappy with the results from the surgeon that I used. I am now afraid to return to the original surgeon and really am just thinking of living with the over-corrected results. I can live with my eyes the way they are, just don’t want to take a chance on ending up worse. Do you think it is worth it to try enhancement surgery one time or even to try it with another surgeon though I will again have to pay the full price. I don’t know what to do. Tammy
