I’m 26 years old and just had Lasik done June 13, 2009. My eyes before Lasik were -4.00 in both eyes. I am very pleased with the results so far in my left eye. The only problem I have is that my right eye is weaker than my left. At the follow up examination June 15 the doctor told me the difference in vision was caused by a slight astigmatism because the corneal flap that was cut for the procedure had slight “stretch marks” (I think the term he used was stria) but that it should naturally heal and smooth over time. It would be great to get assurance from someone else this has happened to and to get an idea of when my right eye should catch up with my left. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Jim

Its been 4 months since I had Lasik surgery. I have no problems with my left eye which is 20/20. My left eye which required more time on the Laser (weaker) is 20/30 and a bit blurry at times. I guess the healing process takes a little longer. However my eyes are improving everyday. Im depending less on the eye drops. I can feel my eyes are starting to naturally tear up. Before I could still tear up by crying, but now when I blink I naturally tear up.
They say it could take up to a year to fully heal from the surgery. I have my 6 month post op in Aug 09. Wish me luck. Again I had this surgery done due to my job in Law Enforcement and Military. My unit is leaving for Iraq sometimes beginning 2010.
For those who are thinking about Lasik, its the best investment I made. Do your own research and remember you get what you pay for. I wore classes since 1st grade and Im 36 years old. Its awesome.

Hello all,
I had Zyoptix custom wave front on both eyes on June 6th (6 days ago). When I woke the next morning my “bad” eye (-10) was great and my “good” eye (-6) was blurry. At my 24h check he said there was swelling in the right eye so I was hoping the vision would improve. I am L eye dominant ie I use my L eye all the time. Would it help to patch it so as to make my brain improve my bad (blurry) eye?. Has anyone tried this?
I was hoping for gradual improvment but if anything now my L eye which was clear as a bell is now getting hazy and there is absolutely no change in my R eye…
I am going back to work in 3 days and am begining to get headache due to one eye being clear and the other blurred than the other.
Any help gratefully received
Doc Holliday

I (47 years age, Mumbai) got done Wavefront lasik just 3 days ago,i was + 2.5 in reading and +1.75 in distance, with small variations in both eyes. Dr said its monovision, right dominant for distance and left for reading very small. I feel my left was far better before as the near view correction seems too much and all distance beyond 3 ft is just not possible with left eye (extremely blurry). That means i am getting ghosts everywhere as right eye sees distance nicely which does not match with horrible left. Dr says it will be better everyday and will take 3 weeks. I was not told about this when I asked, how many days it will take to recovery, i was told 2-3 days. All the patients i met at the clinic were happy. some of them got it done a year ago, some 4 years ago. I hope i am no exception. Dr avoids text message responses and asked me to meet coming Sunday. I am sure , if the left eye correction would have been lesser, i would not have faced such ghosts in distance, as it would have corresponded better with right, in the brain. May be the small reading would have been little difficult. Can anyone please kindly describe similar conditions ?

I had lasik surgery 2 weeks ago and after reading your blog, feel much better. I was not given lots of details about what would happen to my vision afterwards and have been panicking! I cant see the computer screen at work, wear reading glasses which i have to keep peering over for different ranges of vision, and thought that i would have been better off not having it done. I was the same as you, wore glasses since age 11, and lenses until recently at 55. I hope ive done the right thing. Im using my sons website as i dont have one set up properly at the moment. thanks for your blog, it has reassured me that i cant expect instant results.

I’m four weeks post-op and I’m happy to say that I really feel 100% better. I felt hopeless for several weeks following the lasik surgery. I started to really feel better about 3 weeks post-op. I followed up with the MD every week due to irritation of the eyes, headaches and lots of pressure behind my eyes. My last appointment, the MD suggested I try Sudafed to eleviate any sinus issues going on and within two days I really did feel better. I don’t have allergies or sinus issues, but the MD stated sometimes this particular surgery can stir things up in your sinus cavities. For those out there….hang in there, it will get better. SE

I had Lasik done on 14th March 2009. Been really good, just finding somethimes its so bright like looking through mist, optician said it should settle within 3-6 month and the bluriness will dissapear. I went from -6.00 in one eye and -5.00 in the other to -0.25 and -0.75. He said I may need re treating at some point in the -0.75 but it would just be a tweeking! I am light sentitive but have been told thats normal.

Im 55 yrs old and had Custom Lasik done Oct 2008. Im about 7 months out now. I was -7 left and -5 right with astigmatism. I too never had the “wow day. I had the “OMG what have I done” panic day about 2-4 days after surgery. It has been a long and agonizing recovery period. I had terrible blurry vision after surgery which got better over time but never resolved. All the Dr would tell me was that youre fine use alot of drops. I lost any closeup vision I had and still am not clear out to about 5-6 feet. They told me after surgery this may not resolve. I still dont have sharp distant vision. I still have terrible blurry night and low light vision with halos and starbursts. The surgeon says that should resolve by 1 year out but I am beginning to think halos and starbursts may be permanent. The eye strain you may be experiencing may be because your correction is not the same in both eyes and your eyes are changing. I now am back in glasses and I can function and wear readers for reading and computer work.(I have to use 2 pairs of glasses) I believe I am over corrected but the surgeon won’t really tell me anything. This is the situation my surgeon left me in with the option of enhancement if I so choose. I am getting 2nd opinions now to try to salvage some quality of life and a permanent solution to all this. I dont mean to be so negative but people need to know that this surgery is surgery and it is a roll of the dice as to what you will wind up with. If I had to do it all over again I would never have done it nor would I recommend anyone putting themselves through this agonizing experience. Stick with the glasses or contacts. It is not worth risking quality of vision, career, lifestyle, etc. It almost cost me my career as a hospital/neonatal pharmacist. I hope your problems do resolve and you have a good outcome. Mine remains to be seen. Thanks
